The Words Ireland Writers Series – http://wordsireland.ie/words-ireland-writers-series/ – comes to Cork next weekend, as part of a nation-wide network of public meetings for professional and practising writers to discuss the practicalities of sustaining a living as a writer. This is a free public event for writers who earn, or aspire to earn, some or all of their income from writing.
It will comprise of a panel discussion with local writers. Poet Doireann Ni Ghriofa, http://www.doireannnighriofa.com – children’s author, Kieran Crowleyhttp://www.poetryireland.ie/education/writers-directory/kieran-crowley, novelist William Wall – http://www.williamwall.net/ – who is a PhD candidate by prior publication in the School of English and Associate Director of Creative Writing, Mary Morrissy –https://marymorrissy.com – followed by a plenary session in which writers in the audience will have the opportunity to contribute to the debate, with practical suggestions and new ideas for funding and resourcing the literature sector in Ireland.
Among the topics that will be covered will be – which opportunities make creative and financial sense for writers? What types of writing work open doors to further opportunities? Are the existing supports for writers enough and are they working? Generating income, royalties, and writers fees will also be discussed.
