A summer of cliffhangers

For the third year in a row, UCC creative writing students will be writing cliffhangers for the Evening Echo.

Two of our MA students, Deirdre Collins and Siobhan Ryan-Bovey, left and middle, have been commissioned to write 12-episode fiction serials for the Evening Echo to appear in its annual  Summer Soap series.

Students on  the MA’s Writing for Media module submitted their pitches to Echo features editor John Dolan, as part of an ongoing association between the MA programme and Examiner publications.  Their finished serials will appear in the paper and on the Echo’s website during July and August.

Runner-up Irene Halpin Long (right, above) has been commissioned to write a short story for The Holly Bough, the Examiner’s annual Christmas magazine.

Deirdre’s serial is called Bright Lights, and Siobhan’s is Working Wives and that’s all we can say about them for now. . .

Congratulations to all.
