Associate Director of Creative Writing, Mary Morrissy, will  be among six Irish writers who will attend the International Conference on the Short Story in English http://www.shortstoryconference.org/  which takes place in Shanghai, China, next week (July 12 – 17).  This is the first time the biennial conference has been held in an Asian venue and the theme, “Influence in the Short Story: East and West”, is entirely apt.

This conference brings writers of fiction in English (Irish, British, American, Canadian, Australian, Caribbean, South-African, Indian, Sri Lankan, Indonesian, etc.) and writers who have been translated into English together with scholars of the short story form.

The 14th conference will also host a number of sessions, both in traditional format  – speakers and papers –  and in presentations involving performance, dance, art, films, etc.  Irish writer delegates to the conference include Evelyn Conlon, Alan McMonagle, Billy O’Callaghan, Jamie O’Connell and Nuala Ni Chonchuir along with director of Cork’s Triskel Arts Centre, Ann Luttrell.

Cork has a long association with the conference and Irish writers have attended every conference since UCC  played host in 2008.
